Australia uses the metric system, so speed limits are in kilometres, temperature is in Celsius, weights are in grams or kg and so forth.

However,many people still know what a pound, an inch, a foot etc. are, even though they are no longer official.

Dates are written in day/month/year format, although in these pages dates are displayed as year-month-day. E.g. Christmas this year would be 25/12/24 generally and 2024-12-25 on this site.

Perth time is 8 hours ahead of GMT/UTC and Sydney is 3 hours ahead of Perth in summer.
