Perth is the capital city of Western Australia and is in the South West of the state.
Perth is one of the most isolated major cities in the world - it's over 2100 km to
the next large city. It has a population of around 2 million.
The city was built on the Swan River which meets the sea at the port of Fremantle, some 15 km away.
Perth Waters is a broader part of the river, with the city on the North and South Perth on the South.
Perth is a modern city with more high rise office building and apartments being built in recent years, but it still retains many of its historic buildings.
Elizabeth Quay, which is south of the city centre, is an exciting new waterfront precinct on the banks of the Swan River. Here you’ll find the island playground, the BHP Billiton Water Park, public artwork, promenades, open spaces and a range of bars and restaurants.
